I love that both of our boys have active imaginations. As a mom and a teacher, there’s something very satisfying about watching my children pretend as they play. It makes me smile when I see them turning everyday objects into steering wheels, airplanes, boats, fishing poles, etc.
(I know what you’re thinking, and yes, they turn them into weapons as well. It’s written into their DNA! You can forbid so much as a plastic squirt gun from crossing your threshold, but you can’t stop boys from using branches for swords, chewing their sandwiches into guns or building “shooters” from Legos! So it seems a more productive focus is to educate them about the proper and responsible use of a weapon. But I digress.)
Caden is definitely our drama king. He is quite demonstrative, loves to talk, reacts in extremes and has a very vivid (and sometimes unusual) imagination. Take for example the conversation that followed him showing me his newest Lego creation this morning:
Caden: It’s a cow cutter, Mom.
Mom: A what?
Caden: A cow cutter.
Mom: Okay… and it’s supposed to be like a cow?
Caden: Mom!!! Does it look like a cow to you?
Mom: Then why is it a “cow” cutter?
Caden: It chops the grass with cows on it and then it smoothes the grass and it chops the poop.
Aha. Cow cutter. It all makes sense now.
Here’s an example from the “It never hurts to ask” category. I received an email on Friday from Simple Scrapbooks (my favorite magazine) requesting a layout. I was excited for about 3 seconds until I saw it was a layout that had already been published by another magazine. (I had submitted this page to Simple for a baby call several months ago and it wasn’t picked up, so I had offered it elsewhere. They must have filed it away for possible future use.) When I replied about it not being available, I attached a few other recent layouts that fit the call, hoping they might want one of those in its place. And they do! It’s an incredibly simple but sweet layout featuring Gracie. That’s all I can tell you for now… you’ll just have to check out the Scrapbook Play! special issue in September to see it!
And finally, I wanted to share videos of my current favorite worship songs. Be blessed.
