I’ve never really been a morning person, but I have found in the past few years that my day goes far better when I am up at least a half hour (but preferably an hour) earlier than the rest of my family. It’s my time to enjoy a cup of coffee, spend time reading my Bible & journaling, and generally enjoy the quiet before the day begins. And I’ve grown to love mornings.
However, I’m also a night owl who is usually up until 11 or midnight. So it’s very tempting to hit snooze on my iPod when the alarm goes off.
Last year, a friend asked on Facebook if anyone wanted to keep her accountable to getting up at 6 AM via texting or messaging, and I knew this would be the perfect opportunity to make it a habit. When you know someone is depending on you, there’s a sense of responsibility. I mean, I could have technically turned off my iPod when I was super tired, but then I would have felt really guilty. :)
This plan worked well to get me rising and shining last spring, and while we took the summer off, we are resuming again in the morning.
Not only is it effective, but it can be encouraging at times to be greeted first thing in the morning.
And even entertaining.
So if you have noticed like me that rising before your family creates a better start for your day, find a friend and make a plan!
